During the winter, Powder Ridge Mountain Resort offers great skiing. They have easy runs, powder runs, offer snow cats to take you to runs off the beaten path, and because it is a little isolated it is not often crowded. We usually go during the summer months and stay at the Powder Ridge Village timeshare resort. It is on the same mountain, but not associated. It is located near the top of a mountain, offering views of the Great Salt Lake to the west, Cache Valley to the north, the Unitah mountains to the east, and Upper Ogden Valley to the south.
They have recently reconstructed the recreation center with a new pool, hot tub, game room, deck, meeting room, store. They have one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, each with a nice kitchen and eating area, fireplace, deck, and Direct TV, and VCR. The rooms are spacious. The resort offers videos to rent, games to play, horseshoes, and mountain bikes. The store offers some staples, but for the most part you need to stock up on food in Eden before the 7-mile drive up the mountain. Once you leave Eden there are no services, just quiet mountain scenery, deer, elk, moose, bobcats, coyotes, sheep, hawks, and grouse (I've seen all but the coyotes, but they apparently track the sheep).

At seven thousand acres and tons of vertical, this is the mountain for folks who really ski. There's challenging tree skiing. And, if you're willing to hike for just a few minutes, you can almost always find fresh powder. There's very little grooming but it's really not necessary when you have this kind of powder. We went to an area called "Powder Country," where you're skiing virtually out of bounds and at the bottom you end up on a main road and are picked up by a bus (free) and brought back to the base. On this particular trip we met a local skier on the lift, who offered us one of the four beers he skies with under his jacket (because a six-pack is too heavy).Lift tickets are a mere $56 per day--very affordable for this area. Wednesdays are "Sock Day" and if you bring a new pair of socks to donate, you get $12 off your ticket. There's Cat skiing, which we didn't do, for $12 a run.The food is warm and hot and simple: for less than $10 you can get a respectable burger, crisp fries and a Gatorade. At the end of the day, a stop at the frat-like bar at the base is a must. Keg-sized (20 oz.) beers; frosty good.Close
