Visiting Orlando

A century ago, oranges were the main attraction in Orlando. Now, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld Orlando draw millions of visitors each year. Even the most jaded adult can find something wondrous in this eye-popping land of marvels—with or without kids. And if amusement parks aren’t your thing, there are actually things to do in Orlando other than Disney—see the IgoUgo journals Less Obvious Orlando and Not Just Amusement Parks for ideas. Plus, Orlando’s nightlife is alive and well despite the kid-focused parks, especially at the clubs of Paradise Island and in downtown Orlando, where the locals play.

Picking a restaurant in Orlando is difficult only because there are so many to choose from. Chef Mickey’s, Crystal Palace, and Wolfgang Puck Café are very popular, but if you want to get out of the parks, try Boston Lobster Feast for seafood and Golden Corral for breakfast. Places to stay in Orlando are plentiful, too, especially if you’re looking for kid-friendly hotels or hotels with pools.

Whether you’re headed to the parks or not, browsing our travelers’ photos of Orlando is a great way to check out what the city has to offer before you go. Then find a flight and say hi to Mickey for us.    Close
