What a terrific way to spend a day or just a couple of hours. Paths are well marked and the park’s staff in the visitor center is very helpful. There are amazing views of the Illinois River and the canal at Utica and beautiful sedimentary rock formations. This was worth the short drive from the resort and is free. There is the requisite gift store and snack counter, or choose to just sit and watch the river. Some trails require stairs to ascend to the viewpoints, but the view is worth it. Close

Chicago also had a lot to do - too much to do if you're only here four days. Navy Pier was nice, but expensive. Find a local restaurant for better pricing. The museums are a must.

The people in the surrounding area are extremely accommodating -- more so than those at the resort. They made our trip very worthwhile. I needed access to a computer with Internet capabilities, and a salesperson at a woman's shop in the town of Ottawa called the local library for me and gave me directions to get there. Salespeople in the grocery stores and department stores were very friendly, as well. I would return to the area because of the locals. Close

The golf course was surprisingly pretty challenging, and the grouds were well-kept. There are other activities, such as horseback riding two or three times a week, and arcade games inside the activites center for a fee. The grounds are also nice to hike or just go for a nice walk.
