Ok, the area hosts 3 regional bus services: CCAT, SLO Transit, and SCAT. I've never had to use these myself, but my friends swear by it. 25 cents to $2 will get you all over the county. Try the SCAT's trolley, the Coastal Cruiser, for…Read More

Try the SCAT's trolley, the Coastal Cruiser, for a quarter. It has two fixed routes. I could give more info but all I'm doing is looking at the phone book. e-mail me if you want to know more.Close

Lunch at Steinbeck House in Salinas. Dining in the Victorian home on Central Avenue where John Steinbeck was born and raised will be a special treat for fans of the Nobel prize winning author. It's best to make reservations since seating is limited. Only two entrees are featured each day. The restaurant is operated by the Valley Guild, a nonprofit gourmet club. Not to be missed and only a few blocks away, is the Steinbeck Center. Much of the author's memorabilia is here, including original manuscripts and the truck, Rocinante, that he drove while writing Travels with Charlie.Close

My friends Traci and Doug had their reception where Traci works, at the Moss Landing Marine Lab. Located north of Monterey off Highway 1, it is primarily a research and education facility. However, you get a great view of the bay from the back of the building, and the landscaping is done with native California plants (neat if you're into that sort of thing).
Moss Landing itself is very tiny, primarily consisting of the marina and a small conglomeration of a couple restaurants and some antique shops. I didn't find anything I was dying to buy, but the prices did seem to be good for the various antiques.
