These mountains are famous for their delicious huckleberries. Many local restaurants feature them on the summer menus. Fresh berries can be bought or picked in and around Sandpoint. You can even buy huckleberry-flavored wine at the Conoco station at the corner as you turn off the highway to Stoneridge. Buying some groceries before you arrive is a good idea, as the nearest substantial grocery store is about 20 minutes away in Newport.
The art galleries in Sandpoint, with original art by local and famous artists, are worth the one-hour drive.
