One fine holiday of May, we drove down to southern Oita along the coast. The area is rich in fishing and you can see small and beautiful coves and little fishing villages as you drive by. If you don't have a car, JR line will take you to Saeki, the center of the area. Then Oita bus will take you to other fisherman towns.
It was fun to see new greens on mountains that come down to seashore. Many families are fishing on the rocky shore and digging shellfishes in the sandy beach. Some houses have high poll, which they raise carp-shaped streamers, announcing they have boys who cerebrate the Boys Festival in May 5th. However, this streamers are becoming more like the symbol of May. On the express way, most of the streamers were changed to carp-shaped ones. Some of them are mackerel shaped, because the area is famous for its delicious mackerels. A bit if humor, isn’t it.
Passing the Saeki City, we headed to Kamae, where the Marine Culture Center is. From Saeki to Kamae, you have 12 bus a day and it is about 75 minutes ride, according to Oita bus.
Kamae is a small beautiful fisherman’s town with full of marine amusement. We did not have enough time to try them this time, but you can experience professional fishing, diving, surfing, hang glider, and glass boat to see the under water view. We will visit there again and will write additional report.
