Sandwiched between San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach, Avila Beach's location off California's central coastline is blessed with a controlled, moderate climate and warm Pacific Ocean waters. Families delight in these relatively secluded shores, which are highlighted by a 1,685-foot pier with sweeping vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys. The state's famed wine country is just a short drive away, but if it's pure relaxation you're after, head to one of Avila's natural hot spring spas.
