Sitting on the coast below Hearst Castle is this wonderful small park just off Highway 1 opposite the entrance to the Castle. A nice beach is protected by a peninsula, offering sunbathing and swimming. We walked the sturdy pier that gave us awesome views of the magnificent edge of the continent. Looking up into the hills, we could see Hearst Castle perched on the top. We watched cormorants napping on a sea stack (large rocks along the shoreline). After working up an appetite, we enjoyed a picnic lunch at one of the tables in the park. We were observed closely by a few brave seagulls. They obviously knew the drill and only watched over people who had food. We did not feed them. They didn’t complain, just watched closely for an accident. A small Discovery Center is now located here but is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The restrooms are clean. This is a nice stop on the Highway 1 drive to Big Sur. It is an alternative to Hearst Castle or an added stop. The awesome views here should not be missed. No admission charges. Close
