Manly to me is a must see when visiting Sydney. I love the ferry ride from Circular Quay; it is wonderful seeing the sights from the water. Every trip I have taken to Sydney has brought a visit or several to Manly. I must admit I do love taking a ferry anywhere but Manly is my favorite ferry ride. Manly has that beach town feel with a long Corso full of shopping and food options. The place is always hopping with surfers, beach goers, families, tourists and even the older set enjoying a walk. The buzz of activity makes Manly the perfect place to people watch from the beach, a park bench or an outdoor cafe. I first brought my wife here in during our 2007 trip (before she was my wife). She loved the beach and the Corso. She said it reminded her of a smaller version of Nice. Since that first trip together; we return to Manly every visit to Sydney.Close

On the weekend of August 21st-23rd Dale and I went to Manly for the weekend. It was just a last minute decision. We stayed at the Sebel Apartments which was really nice. On the Saturday we went exploring the markets which were just a walk down the road from the apartments. There was a good mix of wares for sale – antiques, clothes (new and second hand) and lots of other miscellaneous item. Then we went to the Manly Oceanworld which is located on the harbour side of Manly – Manly is fortunate to have water on both sides - , to the far end of the beach. We haven’t been there for a while, it’s only small and cheaper to visit then the Sydney Aquarium – it has the usual arrange of fish in tank displays, as well as reptiles and crocs – spent a great couple of hours here. Lastly we went back to the ocean side of Manly and went for a walk around the shore and around the headlands. What a great way to spend the afternoon. The walk took around the water, past the lovely waterside homes, around coves, out to the headlands and along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. We didn’t go too far along the cliffs, but you could do the circuit around to the harbour if you wanted. That night we went out for a Thai dinner – really yummy. The following morning, after we checked out, we went and had breakfast on Manly wharf. From there we decided to travel further up the beaches to have a look – great idea but we didn’t know that you have to pay to park in the beach car parks and we didn’t want to stay, just wanted to look, so we got jack with that idea and hightailed it out of there to the Hawkesbury River to a small waterside town called Brooklyn where we had lunch at the pub – great food and the beers were enjoyable too - and Dale did a spot of fishing.Close
