One of the most marvelous and exciting places in Italy is the town of Collodi and it's situated in Pistoia not far from from Florence. There you can find incredible villas and other estates which lie in a very pleasant surrounding as the Italians used to do it in any of their important cities. About the Villas you are gonna meet the Villa fORTI stated in Ciari and Villa Cecchi known as the Guardatoia but the finest of all is the Villa Garzoni built between the 1633 - 1662 on the site of the medieval city and it gets a typical Luccan Baroque style. Behind the Villa it is situated the town of COLLODI whose fame is in part due to the fact that the Florentine author Carlo Lorenzini (1826-90) wrote the tail of PINOCCIO - very well known to the children - and he used the name as pseudonym. He passed his childhood here in this town that his mother was born in. Collodi until today has a medieval character, clustered around its church that it was founded in the 14th century and the ruins of the keep. Near the Villa Garzonni and Osteria del' Cambero Rosso designed by Giovanni Michelucci in 1963 there's the Park of Pinoccio with the monument of Pinoccio and the Fairy by Emilio Greco (1956), THE PIAZZETA DEI MOSAICI by VENTURINO VENTURINI and the Paese dei Balocchi (Lands of Toys) where Pinoccio's adventures were enacted. Pistoia is an extravagant place and when you visit Florence don't forget it because you are going to remain speachless like me. BUONO VIAGGIO GUYS. Close
