Ambleside is a very quaint town set in the middle of the hills of the Lake District. Large hills, not quite mountains, surround the town and lakes. As you kayak through Lake Windermere, the largest of the lakes, you slowly cruise past hostels, piers, houses, and parks. With the hills surrounding you and the nose of geese, it truly is picturesque. There are several outfitters in Ambleside, so you can shop around. Kayaking, mountain hiking, ghyll scrambling (waterfall climbing), rock climbing, and biking are very popular in the area.Close
