Camp Dippikil is located in the Adirondack Mountains of central New York State. The 850-acre facility features nature trails, a lake, and eight lodges. It is owned and operated by the Student Association of the State University of New York in Albany. I have visited three times and stayed in a different lodge for each visit.
Dippikill is a wonderful retreat any time of the year. Building a warm fire in the winter and touring the wooded, snow-covered landscape was as enjoyable as hiking up to the large lake and taking a summer swim.
The lodges can accommodate anywhere from 2 to 25 people and can be rented for a night or a weekend. The smallest cabin, Twin Brooks, costs $32 per night for Sunday through Thursday or $72 for a Friday and Saturday package. Farmhouse and White Pine, both with a capacity of 25, are $225 a night or $500 for the weekend package. Reservations are made by phone through the Student Association and should be made as far in advance as possible. The phone number is 518/442-5640.
Each lodge is different, offering unique architecture and accommodations. On my first visit, I stayed in Birches, which has a kitchen with a water pump and gas-powered refrigerator, stove, and lights. Other cabins I've stayed in have electric lights and kitchen equipment. Every cabin has a fireplace.
Dippikill is a gem of central New York and I highly recommend it.
