When you enter Ligonier, the first thing you will notice is "the diamond" in the center of town and the beautiful picturesque surrounding farmland. The center of town is filled with several novelty shops ranging from flowers to ice cream, coffee, and penny candy. Amidst these are also restaurants, a hotel, bed & breakfasts, a bowling alley, and even a small theater. If you are looking for a place to spend a day without commercialization, Ligonier is the place to go. Just below Main Street is Ligonier's biggest claim to fame--Fort Ligonier. Fort Ligonier was a stronghold during the French and Indian War and even once housed George Washington. (Tours are given regularly.)
For children of all ages there is the thrill of Idlewild Park and Soakzone, an amusement park providing quality family fun for over a hundred years. Filled with a water park, Jumpin' Jungle, Storybook Forest, Mister Rodger's Neighborhood and a variety of food, rides, and entertainment, Idlewild & Soakzone is rated the #2 Best Kids Park and #4 Best Park for Families in the WORLD! It is the perfect way to spend a summer day.
If you're more of an adventurous person, Ligonier is just miles away from two large four seasons resorts: Seven Springs Mountain Resort and Hidden Valley, and several golf courses including Champion Lakes, Ridge View Golf Club, and Ligonier Country Club.
Ligonier is also great for the festival lovers. Once a year, Ligonier holds "Fort Ligonier Days"-- an annual festival to celebrate its history. The streets are closed off and vendors and craftsman begin to file in to fill the streets with top quality crafts, goods, music, and food. To make the celebration official the fort opens up for its annual reinactment as the battles of the French and Indian War are once again replayed. Kids love the excitement and adults love the small-town bustle.
So if you're looking for the perfect escape for your family come to our quaint little Ligonier and stay awhile.
