I just returned from a week's stay at the Olympic Village Inn from Feb. 13 to Feb. 22.
The one-bedroom condo is very cozy and perfect for a family of four. As you walk into the unit, you are led into the bedroom with a queen-size bed. Continue into the unit and there's a vanity area/bathroom that separates the bedroom from the living room. The living room has a pullout double size sofa bed. Also in the room is a VCR and CD/radio. There's a kitchenette in the living room area. The kitchenette is equipped with two burners, a microwave, small refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. Our room had a balcony that had a view of the Squaw Valley ski slopes.
The best thing about the resort is the convenience to the slopes. Hop on the free shuttle provided by the hotel and you are on the slopes within minutes. After a long day of skiing, just hop back onto the shuttle and you're sipping the complimentary hot coffee and hot tea in the resort's lobby while the other skiers are still fighting the traffic getting out of the parking lot. The resort has a large heated pool that is available even during the winter months. The resort also has many outdoor hot tubs that are perfect for relaxing your sore muscles from skiing. The hotel lobby has a sitting area with a television, and free internet access on the computer for guest use. Right out the doors of the lobby are three coin operated washer and dryers for use by all guests. The resort also provides ski storage, so you don't have to lug your skis up to your room. The recreation department provides free use of sleds and snow shoes as well.
The staff at the resort is very friendly and helpful.
I would highly recommend staying here!

Staying at the OVI in a pricey locale like Squaw Valley allowed us to save on lodging and food so we could enjoy what the resort has to offer. The new condos built within walking distance to the slopes are pretty pricey -- they kind of remind me of Vail.
For friends who are learning to ski, I suggest Squaw only because the bunny runs are way up on top, with breathtaking views. We often eat in for breakfast (we like our Gevalia coffee) or dinner (too pooped to go anywhere after tubing); since we're out in the snow during the day, so lunch is on the slopes. I like bringing our hanging travel kit from Getaway Gourmet where we can bring our special Dutch cocoa and cinnamon, herbes de provence, and truffle oil. It's a godsend!
When we eat out, we bring our wines from our cellar and happily pay the corkage, knowing we're saving a bundle, rather than purchasing from their selection. Graham's restaurant is our favorite and it’s better than the others.

Today was so-ooo fun! We all took a sky tram up to "High Camp" where the 1959 winter Olympics were held. The view was gorgeous. There was the scenic green meadow below where our hotel was located at and not to far of a distance away, Lake Tahoe sparkled. We looked around at the olympic items they had to show off like old newspaper articles, a winners silver cup, and even the ice skates & skis used during the games. We even got to see a cool video that showed the opening ceremonies and the skiing and skating competitions that went on during 1959 winter games they had there.Afterwards we all started on a beautiful and fun hike down this almost 9000 foot high mountain. Mom and Dad had to get help with the way down from a passing truck though (they aren't used to hiking like we are). Daniel and I however continued all the way down even seeing a couple of cute marmots (similar to a huge hamster). Once we got back we had a fun barbeque, hamburgers and corn on the cob for dinner. Then ending the evening with a nice relaxing dip in the spa before we turned in. Close

Today we woke up with the idea of having a happy fourth of July in mind. We started out early with our destination being to see my Aunt Judy and Uncle Frank. While there we even got to see their small town Fourth of July parade. Complete with miniature horses pulling carts and their tractors decked out in red, white and blue rolling along while little kids waved at the drivers. Daniel even got his picture taken with one of the cute mini horses afterward. Then we continued on with our drive and arrived at the Olympic Village Inn in North Lake Tahoe just in time to catch the spectacular firework shows around the lake. Then since Mom was tired we quietly ended the evening playing UNO in bed until we turned in ourselves, not to long after. Close

It's Saturday the third of July and we've left this morning around ten to get an early start on our way up to Tahoe. Mom drove the entire way. Slowly at first up through the grapevine and then into the vast farm country of California playing UNO helped eat away the long hours getting there. Finally, we got into Sacramento for a friendly visit with Daniel parents. Heathers parents even treated Daniels parents to a nice dinner. It was all good, his parents did dress nicely and we even got to see his sister Sarah before we left. Tonight we slept over in Sacramento at the La Quinta Inn located beside the American River and even saw a cute skunk running along beside the river having fun before we turned in. Close
