Red Boiling Springs is not for the easily bored. If you want excitement and lots of activities and attractions, drive the extra couple of hours to the nearest cities. If you want to seriously get away from it all and unwind, then Red Boiling Springs offers a greatly relaxing atmosphere. I recommend it as a weekend getaway destination, especially for couples wanting a little time off to themselves.
In town, you have a choice of three hotels to stay in. I have only stayed at the Armour Hotel, and giving it a sound endorsement, but have heard very good things about the others, as well. The Donoho Hotel and the Thomas House are quaint and full of character, from what I've seen. For more details on the Armour Hotel, see my accommodations entry.
There is a scenic creek running near the main road, and the hotels, which makes an idyllic walking route. There are two nearby covered bridges spanning the creek that provide good photo opportunities. The creek also runs through the town park. Though not a large park, it is well kept and provides another good place to. . . that's right, relax!
So, if you haven't figured it out yet, Red Boiling Springs is a very nice, peaceful weekend getaway spot for those looking to kick back and do nothing. To me, there is something to be said about a couple of days away from a phone, TV and all those chores around the house. Why not head for the Tennessee hills and forget it all for a little while?
