What makes these craters so unique is that they are not just a big hole. There are three of them about 1/2 mile from the parking lot.
The first one had greenish yellow water similar to antifreeze. The sides were steep with large boulders.
The second one had pine trees growing up the sides with orange colored water as if from rust.
The third crater was a little further away and required a climb up the side of the crater. Oddly enough, this one was the least spectacular. The sides were the steepest yet and there was no way one could walk around the edges. And to have fallen down this one would have been a much bigger drop.

Yosemite National Park is huge and had endless opportunities for exercise, nature's beauty and varieties of wildlife. You could spend weeks at a time there and not see it all. We intend to renew our National Parks Pass to take advantage of many more visits to Yosemite this coming summer. Close

The Mammoth Lakes Airport, south of Mammoth on Highway 395 has a display of small planes. There are examples of experimental aircraft and other types of small planes. The airport is the only one near this area and only small planes can land there.…Read More
