I went Skydiving as Mission beach is rated to be the number one location to do it. As the plane took off, I had to sit beside the giant hole that was its door, feeling that I could quite easily fall out without my tandem, which would be fine if I had my own chute. As we reached the appropriate height I could see the sun still rising. It covered the thick blanket of cloud below in shimmering warmth, making everything glow. Next thing I know I’m tumbling through the air from 11,000 ft. The most extraordinary thing about this section of the fall was that I could see a complete rainbow. Standing on the ground you can only see half of a rainbow, but in the sky it’s a full circle. Even more incredible, as I looked at this rainbow (it was formed right under me in one of the clouds) I saw my shadow inside it, getting bigger and bigger until I fell right through it, into the cloud. I saw my shadow, in a rainbow, in a cloud! How amazing is that? The man I was attached to said it was a very frequent phenomenon on the more rainy days. Falling through the cloud itself was a bit painful. All the water droplets hit my face, feeling like needles, and the speed of the fall made my face go all flat and squishy like a cartoon. Then the chute was released. Controlling it was very simple and you can navigate with a lot of precision, but to be honest I liked slowly floating down most of all. The view was spectacular (it was over the ocean and several islands) and I just wanted to take it all in. I highly recommend it. If you ever thought about it, do it. It’s not overrated at all; it’s absolutely edifying and addictive. Close
