Aosta is a small cultural city near the French-Italian border. It is a popular interchange for Italians on their way to Mount Blanc, a popular ski destination. The town is small and easy to explore in a day’s walk. There are roads, but you will not see many cars once you leave the train station.
Aosta is home to an ancient outdoor antifeteatro (amphitheater). They were in the process of restoring it when I visited, but the sight is amazing nonetheless.
In the main square, the locals gather to meet and relax; you may even see a few Saint Bernards, which are from this region.
We rolled the dice and walked into a small ristorante and again hit the jackpot. I suggest checking the prices before sitting down anywhere, but I have never had a bad meal in Italy. Italians take food very seriously and you will rarely find a bad meal, go with your instinct as far as cleanliness. Don't forget to stop for gelato!
