Unless you're a fan of a certain breed of mushrooms, you generally expect a degree of proportion in your life. You know exactly what daily hazards -- like subways and buses -- are large enough to kill you, and you're kind enough to be gentle to nature's tinier denizens. But traveling can throw this out of whack. As two of our photographers made clear in their recent pictures, a trip to a foreign country can upend your assumptions. Our Photos of the Week are bigger than you expected.
In Angkor Wat, in Cambodia, an ancient society lives on. When our own Jodeci527 paid a visit to the ruins, she snapped a cheeky photo of a head engraved in stone. We hope he appreciated your visit, Jodeci.

In most parts of the world, a ride on horseback is nothing out of the ordinary. But a ride on an elephant? That's special. We admire your bravery for giving it a whirl, koshkha.
