If you travel a lot, you know that bad weather is a pretty relative term, a phrase that usually points to your mood more than anything else. The Canadian cold front that dumps fresh powder in the middle of a perfect ski vacation is also the nuisance that strands you at the airport Cinnabon. That's why it's hard for us to feel bad on a windy day -- it's brutal on the streets of New York this morning, but many other places are beautiful when the weather gets gusty. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Dublin, Ireland: The capital of chilly rain, this hub on the Emerald Isle has a literary pub crawl and a trip through the Guinness Storehouse. For the ultimate in cheery visits, stop by the Kilmainhaim Jail.
- Denver, CO: The mile-high endpoint of Rocky Mountain wind is bustling with rugged energy and frontier-style charm. Pay a visit to the top-shelf Denver Zoo, or pop open a cold one at the aptly-named Coors Field.
- San Francisco, CA: If Mark Twain is right, a San Francisco summer is gusty, foggy, and cold. He is, but that doesn’t mean you should stay away -- Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge alone are worth the price of a plane ticket.
