As travelers navigate the globe, many are keen to check off as many places as possible, marking their maps and making sure to fulfill their must-do lists. Then there are those travelers who find a spot—a country, city, town, or niche—and fall in love, returning many times and never boring of all that the locale has to offer. Some IgoUgo members have, over the years, recorded their many happy returns to places far and wide. Here is a selection of some of those members who branch out from their borders and revisit destinations to become de facto experts.
By trade, C.Kowalczik is a travel agent and “Disney Travel Specialist.” This veteran member makes no bones about the business of travel; of his 23 journals, 15 are from Florida, and a whopping 11 journals focus on just the parks around the Magic Kingdom. However, it’s not just kids’ stuff—check out his take on Epcot’s food and wine festival.
A self-professed and consummate vagabonder, Shady Ady left the UK to embark on a years-long trip, detailed in over 50 journals across four continents. However, it is his year spent teaching English in Ecuador that makes him stand out as an expert. Of Shady Ady’s 51 journals, 25 are from Ecuador. You can read his tales of a traveling Englishman in Ecuador from start to finish and enjoy his stops along the way. Regardless of location, Shady Ady is an expert at cracking us up.
You may have guessed she’s Dutch, but Dutchnatasja’s Florida expertise makes her stand out. Her 10 journals covering the Sunshine State certainly shine, and sunsets are—appropriately—the trademark of her unfailingly beautiful photos. Restaurant and hotel reviews will help you plan your own getaway, and her additions of Experiences and activities will keep you busy during any free time, from the Keys—her favorite—to St. Augustine.
Though becks calls Mexico City home, 11 of his 65 Top-Rated journals cover Austria and its Old World wonder. Every review is filled with the requisite descriptive prowess of a great writer, and also includes a great deal of history and sound advice, but does not forget to include the local color of some of Austria’s most unique sites.
One of IgoUgo’s most prolific members as both writer and photographer, Nottinghamian MichaelJM is truly an Olympian contributor with 23 journals from Greece, including 31 reviews on Santorini alone. However, no matter where he goes, MichaelJM is sure to report back about all of his gustatory experiences. Not just for foodies, his reviews come with some spectacular—and intriguing—photos, including classic views and monastic ostriches.
Welcoming the moniker “insane walker,” stomps has paraded all around the globe since graduating college. Originally from Houston, she can now call Australia her new stomping grounds. Of stomps’ 57 Top-Rated journals, 26 cover just Oz, with six in Queensland alone. If you plan any sort of antipodean trip, be sure to check out stomps’ journals. Just don’t forget your fuzzy hat.
Some members really don’t have just one spot about which they can claim to be infinitely wise. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have their own areas of expertise. Take callen60, for example. He calls Missouri home, but has more than a working knowledge of the great outdoors. Four journals named for national parks, not including trips to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and the Olympic Peninsula, are more than enough to show us that not only does callen60 know his stuff, but he’s not afraid to rough it, either.
On the other hand, sometimes our members just want to relax—again and again. For those of you who are more inclined to be reclined with a drink in hand than hiking with a walking stick in hand, Cantin2 can you give you the lowdown on cruises, beaches, and resorts from Central America and the Caribbean to Europe or British Columbia. Though she can provide plenty of info on Cabo, don’t think that Cantin2 is all about working on her tan—she’ll leave you in the dust (or powder) with more than a couple of Top-Rated journals about skiing.
Are you a destination expert? If so, start writing!
