With an arsenal of online resources and a heightening awareness of their impact on the travel industry, women are taking over the world—literally. Adventure Divas is a PBS documentary series, book, and web empire devoted to independent women travelers, with new organized tours launching this year. GutsyTraveler.com offers tips, resources, and statistics for women traveling together, solo, or with their families. Women’s Adventure magazine explores adventure travel with a femme slant. Even popular travel sites like GoNOMAD have devoted entire sections to women’s travel. It’s enough to get the attention of the New York Times, who recently published an article exposing the strong female influence on the travel experience, and American Airlines, who have just become the first airline to devote a portion of their website to women travelers. Looks like girl power is spreading its wings.
