The Eixample district is one of the more known districs in the city of Barcelona. It has been built since the 19th and 20th century and is between the old part and the surrounding towns. In this area there live around a quarter of a million people here. What makes the district unique is especially the long and narrow streets. These narrow streets are crossed with wide avenues and square blocks.
The district has designed in a way that it would give visibility, better ventilation and short stay parking place. Even the famous Gaudi put his stamp on this neigherhood and built Casa Batllo and the well known sagrada familia. The area is one of the most visited areas in Barcelona and it’s were you will find the most imporant shops and attractions. The main street of Passeig de Gracia can also be found here.
When we stayed a few days we actually stayed in this neigherhood. It’s very central and it has great public transport connections. Within a few minutes you are in the old part of the city and the famous square of Placa Cataluna and the street La rambla. The area also has a lot of restaurants, bars and shops.
For a tourist the area is certainly a must to visit and something you can’t miss while being in the city. For me five stars.
