I was recently sent for a familiarization trip by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to Chiang Mai. It was part of my assignment as one of the finalists of its Medical Tourism Blog Contest (http://www.medblogcontest.com/blog/11).
The trip brought me to a three-day, two-night stay in the luxurious Mandarin Oriental Dhara Devi in Chiang Mai. The hotel resort is set in rice paddies with expensive villas to rent. I also had a wonderful spa treatment for a night at Rarijinda Spa and Wellness.
Chiang Mai is located at the northern part of Thailand. It is much cooler there because of the mountains nearby. Several temples are found within the central part of Chiang Mai. But the most popular is the one at Doi Suthep, built on a hill.
There are also various waterfalls and orchid gardens in Chiang Mai. A popular attraction is the Elephant Camp at Mae Sa.
Apart from nature trips, Chiang Mai also has a cultural center that features the old Chiang Mai and the hilltribes. Visit http://www.medblogcontest.com/blog/11 for all the attractions I have visited during this familiarization trip.
