Ngong Ping Cable Cars

Ngong Ping cable cars offer a quick and convenient means of transportation to Lantau Island. Your travel time is cut in half, when compared to the bus services that are offered.

The cable car terminal is located a very short walk away from the Tung Chung MTR station. Make sure to take Exit B, and you won't miss the signs for Ngong Ping Cable Cars.

At the terminal, you are met with several options: you can ride in the Crystal Cabin (a glass bottomed car) as well as riding privately. Obviously, either of these options require more money. My friends and I opted to ride in a regular cabin.

While it was a bit nerve-racking to gradually rise above the hills and the waters, the ride offers wonderful panaromic views of the existing Hong Kong greenery and the South China Sea. You can also see the airport with planes taking off and landing in the distant.

You may hear a strange whistling in your cabin: that's because of the air that goes through the slits of the sides of the cabin.

The ride is approximately half hour long. You'll know that you're soon arriving at Lantau Island once you can start seeing the Big Buddha.
