Finally, I visited Valencia! I was thinking about this trip since months, it’s pretty close to where I live so that it was a great destination to spend some days. I lost the biggest city event, one of the most crazy festival in Spain, "Las Fallas" so that I was even more curios to visit it.
We got there by train and if you do this, you can admire the beautiful train station and the Plaza de Toros right there. We found an accommodation close to the City of Arts and Sciences, the wonderful futuristic complex designed by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava. We spend there the first afternoon and I have to admit that it’s the thing that most impressed of Valencia. The complex is made up by for buildings: an IMAX cinema (L’Hemisferic), the Museum of Sciences, an Opera House and l’Umbracle (a green promenade) and a big Marine Park. If you are interested in visiting these attractions it is possible to buy ticket just for one thing or do a combined entry so that you can save quite a lot of money, especially if you want to visit everything. At night we spent some time in the city centre, pretty crowdy and lively with many bars and restaurants.
Second day, the city centre by day: the beautiful Cathedral, the Torres de Serranos and the church of San Juan de l’Hospital. We visited the botanic garden as well, to have a relaxing walk. Then, as we have planned in advance to eat the local famous dish, the worldwide famous Paella. We reached the beach at sunset where we supposed to find many restaurants. There were some of good but as the it was not high season and it was Sunday night some of them were closed. We found a good one with terrace and we finally had the famous paella, really delicious! One more reason to go to Valencia...
Third and last day: a quick visit to the port that hosted the 32nd America’s Cup, the famous sailing competition, and a walk more at the beach. Valencia is not a huge city but it has so many things to offer.
