If you live in The Villages (CFL), this is not only a great beach for an overnight trip but could also be done in a day.
We used a GPS. To get there we took the "shortest" route which basically took us on side roads, straight through the north side of Orlando on route 441. It took 2 hrs 50 min; 105 miles. On the return trip, we took the "fastest" route which took 2 hrs 7 min; 113 miles. The shortest route had a LOT of red lights and stop and go traffic -- no doubt it used more gas. On the fastest route, we took toll roads which cost us $5 (one-way). We will take the fastest way to get there in the future and give ourselves an extra hour on the beach...
This was just an overnight trip to check out the place. We will return and we will bringing friends and family who come and visit us in the winter. We didn't try to do everything; some things we didn't do and will some day:
-- Take a cruise
-- Visit the Kennedy Space Center
-- Check out the Ron Jon Surf Shop
Other things that guests could do, but maybe not us:
-- Go deap sea fishing
-- Cocoa Beach Parasail
-- Warbird Air Museum
