Having lived in Las Vegas for many years before it became the big city that it is today, I can remember when Mesquite was hardly there. In the 70's a truck stop with a small casino was built, and later replaced by the Peppermill hotel and casino. In the 80's we would escape the tourists of Las Vegas and drive the 90 miles north to relax at the Peppermill. Since then the Peppermill is now the Oasis hotel and casino, and is joined by three others. Virgin River, Eureka, and the Casa Blanca. The Pool at the Casa Blanca has a waterfall and quite large. Great for relaxing in the desert heat, with cocktail service. The Oasis has several smaller pools, some for adults only and some for children. I would recommend the buffets at the Eureka and the Oasis. The breakfast bargains at the Eureka are hard to pass up also. A ham grilled ham steak and eggs with hash browns for $3.49, or steak and eggs for $3.99. All in all Mesquite is a great place to get away from the crowds of Las Vegas or a nice place to stop on a trip on I-15. The town has some growing pains, but it is worthy of a visit.
