Part of the fun of visiting family and friends is getting to try out their favorite restaurants. Albuquerque has lots to choose from and these are the places my family chose. Rather than the usual New Mexican cuisine, we hit two local favorites and two chain restaurants.
Mimi’s Café is a chain restaurant that hasn’t arrived in our home state yet. Decorate with a French Quarter flare, the menu was extensive and the service excellent. They even offer a Lifestyle Menu for those wanting low carb/lower fat choices. I had a quiche with a buttermilk spice muffin. I hadn’t had a muffin that tasty in years.
Olive Garden is another chain restaurant familiar to people across the nation. How ever I found this one to be a standout because they got the eggplant Parmesan just right, crispy not mushy or burnt. They also handled a complex order for six with no errors.
Annie’s Soup Kitchen is a local favorite found at 3107 Eubank Boulevard. Many repeat customers enjoy reliable service and good food. Annie’s offers soup, salads, and sandwich fare with deserts, in a plain but clean dining room. None of the food was stand out but it was comfortable here. This is a great place to linger over a meal enjoying conversation.
Ho-Lo-Ma Chinese Restaurant is another neighborhood favorite located at 8624 Menaul. They specialize in Cantonese and Szechuan. This place would not rate in my top ten list of Chinese restaurants…but it was quiet and we could talk.
