Fountain of Youth in Florida

Warm Mineral Springs Photo, North Port, Florida

South Florida scenic beauty and warm mineral water are the lures here. While in Florida, we heard many times about the Warm Mineral Springs – Florida’s best-kept secret - and in October 2002 decided to get our own opinion. And we found that stepping into the Springs is like stepping back into an unhurried era and rediscovering the lost art of relaxing. As Benjamin Franklin put it "We will only know the worth of water when the well is dry" (he did not mean the Warm Mineral Springs of course). ${QuickSuggestions} The town became famous worldwide because of the mineral springs. Over nine million gallons of warm water a day come to the surface of the lake everyday revitalizing those who soak in (and drink from) these legendary springs. If you want to relax in warm mineral water that's the place to go. Even if you enter the waters with nothing that ails you, you'll still feel better when you get out. In January the Gulf’s temperature around 62º - you can warm up here (you will not be alone though). The low-key resort is 12mi from the Gulf of Mexico. Visit Venice – the most beautiful town along the Gulf of Mexico. The city’s beaches are good for ancient sharks teeth collecting (Venice is 10 miles west of the Springs). Explore Sarasota, the cultural capital of Florida, with gems like the magnificent Ringling Museum of Art, the Asolo Center for the Performing Arts and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Take a day trip to Walt Disney World, just two hours drive of North Port. The Springs also boasts direct access to the scenic Myakka River, a designated "Wild and Scenic River". ${BestWay} The closest airports in the area are the Sarasota-Bradenton International airport (SRQ) located 30 miles NW in Sarasota. The Southwest Florida International airport (RSW) located 50 miles southeast in Fort Myers, the St Petersburg/Clearwater International airport (PIE) located roughly 60 miles north-west. Most likely you will fly into the Tampa International airport (TPA) located 70 miles north of resort in Tampa. Rent a car or take a shuttle bus from airport. Take I-75 to exit 191 (old 34). The road rungs along picturesque Myakka River. 5 miles later you reach US41 AKA Tamiami Trail, turn left here and enter former town of Warm Mineral Springs, now western part of North Port. Driving eastbound 2.5 miles later reach Ortiz Blvd, turn left and drive up north 1 mile. The resort is on your right. You will need a car to explore the area. Although when we visited the Warm Mineral Springs, parking lot was full of coaches. Vacationers told us that Boston and New York organize the tours providing flight tickets, coach, accommodation and admission to the resort – check your local newspaper. Local public transportation links Warm Mineral Springs with Venice and Sarasota.
