After spending a few days in Denmark (primarily Copenhagen, but a little of Aarhus as well), I had the following observations:
- I have never seen a more orderly society. Pedestrians will literally wait for the pedestrian light to change to green before they cross the street, even if there isn’t a car in sight.
- Copenhagen is a very clean, healthy city. There are bike paths everywhere and the pedestrian only shopping areas and canals bring people outdoors particularly in the summer months. There are also lots of parks and green areas throughout the city.
- Everything is a nice mix of old and new. You get the history of Europe mixed with the fresh design of Danes.
- Danish people are very beautiful . . . and in the right setting, they are lots of fun (and a little bit wacky). They gravitate towards social situations, they love to dance and have a party amongst friends, and they can be quite funny (albeit in a dry, sarcastic sort of way). One funny story: I was riding the train back from Aarhus to Copenhagen (a three hour train ride). My friends got hungry so we ordered pizza to be delivered at one of the stops along the way. There was a mad dash to run down the platform, pay the delivery man, grab the beer and pizza, and get back on the train in time. It made for a few laughs.
- The food and dining options in Copenhagen are very nice. I had some magnificent meals.
- The airport is the easiest, cleanest, and one of the nicest airports I have ever been in.
- There are a lot of white people in Denmark . . . and they tend to dress very similarly (stylish and relatively safe).
- There is very nice shopping and it is an easy experience to stroll down the pedestrian only shopping district in Copenhagen. You would be hard pressed not to buy several things after spending a day of shopping in Copenhagen. I even liked the department stores (Magasin in particular).
- Copenhagen is a surprisingly nice place to visit in the winter particularly if you like fine dining, culture (i.e. museums), and shopping.
- Little things can be a bit expensive (i.e. I spent $25 for a guidebook in the airport).
