With a capacity for 70,000 people and an ability to seat them all within minutes, the Colosseum is a very impressive piece of architecture. However, entrance today is much slower, with long queues snaking up to the ticket office in high season. Tickets cost 10€ (less for students/concessions). Queue-jumping guided tours are available from outside for an extra 8 to 10€; however, as the most impressive parts of the Colosseum appeared to be visible from the outside, we settled for walking round the outside of the building and the ruins of the Roman Forum opposite. The Colosseum is one of those must-see sights, but having seen it (and feeling duly impressed), we don't think it warrants a return visit.
