A day in DC

Police Memorial WallMore Photos

We visited Washington DC on Tuesday. The baby was fussing as we arrived, so we quickly looked for a place to stop and nurse her. Arlington National Cemetery was not on our short list of things to see, but it was right there, and it had a huge parking lot. After feeding her, we went walking around. The place is huge. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. There was lots to see.

We crossed the bridge, and tried to find a place to park and see the Lincoln Memorial. There was just so much construction going on, we had trouble finding anything. When we spotted an open meter, we parked. We got out the map, and tried to figure out where we were. Turns out we were close to the White House. The road was blocked off for vehicle traffic, but we were able to walk up to the fence. It was pretty neat. Behind us was the Washington Monument (which was closed due to construction). Next we walked back toward the reflecting pool, went though a park, and saw the Vietnam Memorial Wall (also under construction). The park was very pretty, and had ducks and geese. We had to drive over to Justice Square, to see the Police Memorial Wall. I think that was our favorite part of the day. I had no idea what it looked like, nor did my husband. We were surprised when we found it. It consisted of low walls with rounded tops that were shaped in half circles. Like the Vietnam Wall, there was a book to look and find where the names were, and paper and pencil were provided for etching. We had lots of fun finding names of people we knew. It is a beautiful place
