Quintana Roo Stories and Tips

This was supposed to be my honeymoon. Unfortunately, due to the events of 9/11, my husband was sent to Afghanistan. So after having to postpone our wedding to the fall, I decided to take the kids.

We stayed at the Mayan Palace. What an awesome place! The kids enjoyed the pool immensely and I got to just relax. The beach at the resort wasn’t great, but just around the bend was a very nice spot. We also went to Playa Del Carmen, a short bus ride away, and enjoyed shopping and more beautiful beaches. Of course, the kids weren’t up for a day of sightseeing so we headed back to the resort.

The buffet there was the best spread I have ever seen! The huts surrounding the pool added a very romantic touch. The only downsides were that there is still much construction going on and the timeshare tours. Otherwise, it’s great!

I visited again in 2003 on a girls-only trip and had a blast. Many improvements had been completed, but the buffet was gone.
