If you have children you take on vacation as we often do, then finding a destination that they will enjoy without having to travel to the "big parks" can be a challenge. It was as close as our own backyard. Just a three or four hour drive and very easy directions we found ourselves at the door of Eastern Slopes Inn in North Conway, N.H. on an exchange week. We went on the Scenic Trainride, hiked, biked and shopped. The facilities include an indoor pool which kept us refreshed after a day walking through all the local shops on Main Street. My oldest grandson caught a 16-inch brown trout, which he proudly carried back to the room to be frozen and taken home to share with his Dad. We drove around on well-maintained roads snapping pictures of the "locals" (namely moose) who were venturing towards the road. The many streams and lakes with mountain backdrops provided any artist subject matter to last a lifetime. The staff at the resort were courteous and friendly. Our rooms suited our needs - although there was no full-size range, it was enough for quick meals in the room and provided reason enough to try the many restaurants within walking distance.
