We arrived a day later than planned due to a family issue. Had done an exchange and stayed at the Maverick. The desk clerk was very unfriendly when we checked in, almost to the point of rudeness. He was the only person we encountered in the resort who was not friendly.
The resort is an older property but they have updated it somewhat. The room was very clean although we were disappointed in how small it was relative to the picture on line and in the guide, particularly because we traded a one bedroom for a studio. They say it will sleep four, but no way would I want two other people in that small room! The room was airy and light with beach views from the entire unit except the vanity and bath area.
We did not participate in any of the activities sponsored by the resort but they offered numerous ones.
There were not nearly enough carts to haul luggage, beach stuff, etc. up to the unit; saw a total of three during the week on our end of the building. We finally found one when we arrived but had to make a lot of trips the morning we left to get our stuff to the car without a cart.
I returned the inventory list to the desk the morning after we arrived because we were missing some items but they were never brought up -- maybe I should have called and made a specific request.
The light fixture at the vanity did not always come on when the switch was flipped and often needed a "boost" by resetting it or moving the switch down slightly. When the light was on it would make a brief sizzling sound when the refrigerator ran.
Kitchen was ok. The cabinets appeared to be new and it had a two burner stove with a microwave which was in another part of the unit (kind of inconvenient). Dishes were adequate but could have used a microwaveable dish with a lid for cooking since there was no oven; and, a large fork or tongs would have been nice when using the grills.
Overall, we had a good time. We were not in the room that much but did eat two evening meals in the unit and had to improvise to cook (i.e., used the large salad bowl to cook rice and used a small salad bowl to heat something else).
The beach was clean and not crowded at all (a big plus) and the water was almost as blue as it is on the Gulf side only without the nasty seaweed that is often at the Gulf.
After Monday, the weather was wonderful -- not too hot and a good breeze -- the remainder of the week. We spent Monday in St. Augustine due to the clouds and had a wonderful time there, too.
I would not choose The Maverick again if I were exchanging. However, we will not need to trade into Daytona again as we purchased at The Royal Floridian while there; it is more to our taste.
