Animals

Everywhere you go, the animals pretty much roam free. Most livestock are taken out to the fields in the morning and come back in the evening. But we watched one pig trot down the street, open a door with his snout, and trot right in. Dogs can be found everywhere, and although we were told to get rabies vaccinations before we went to Pomacanchi, the local veterinarian said they have free yearly clinics where people bring their dogs and they are all vaccinated. He didn't know of any cases of rabies. The only aggressive dog we saw was the German shepherd that belonged to the police.

But it was neat to see all the donkeys, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc. Just watch where you step! And we saw very few llamas and no alpacas--not a rich enough area, I guess.
