A Wonderful Day at the National Bison Range

A WONDERFUL DAY AT THE NATIONAL BISON RANGEMore Photos

At our timeshare, we learned that the National Bison Range was a good day trip and well worth the drive. So we got up early one morning and drove over to Moiese, Montana to check it out. This is another place where our Golden Age Passport from the National Park Service saved us money.

Upon entering the bison range, we first stopped by the visitor's center and looked at the exhibits and picked up maps. The rangers there told us where we were most likely to see wildlife and were very helpful in answering our questions about the range. We then set out to explore for ourselves on the 19-mile self-guided driving tour on a one-way gravel road. Along the way, we saw many different animals and stopped several times to take photographs. When we got our first view of the Mission Mountains, we just pulled over in a parking area and stayed for a long time. It was hard to imagine so much beauty being located in this one place. While we were there, we thought we would eat our picnic lunch in the car and continue to experience the beauty before us.

What a wonderful day we had. The National Bison Range is definitely on our list for a repeat visit. We want to experience it in another season of the year, too. Fall was wonderful, but I'll bet the other seasons are just as beautiful.
