Although springtime is best for flowers in the New Ulm area (when the Texas bluebonnets are in full bloom), other types of flowers can be seen year-round, like those in the photos below. There also are a lot of hummingbirds in the area.
Every season has its own type of flowering plant in the New Ulm area. The climat is such that flowering plants and vegetables grow 9 to 10 months of the year. The prettiest flowers grow in the spring, as you''d expect, but I remember viewing and photographing flowering plants as late as November when I was in high school.
I remember my first roll of color film, taking a picture in color of a rose in the late 1950s. I still have that photo today somewhere, and I think it hooked me on photography.
