Within an hour and a half of Jacksonville, I can ride horses on the beach or watch wild horses and bison interact on a prarie. I can hike 150 ft into a sinkhole and see plants that normally grow in the Smoky Mountains or I can take my boat out and watch right whales frolicking in the ocean. I haven't had a fishing trip yet where I haven't seen dolphins. One of my greatest experiences was seeing a leatherback turtle headed out to sea -- she must have been 6 ft. How about swimming with a gentle giant sea cow in the St. John's River? River City has a gentle touch of nature. Whether you choose to explore the simplicity of this northern city of the South at one of its treasures like Fort Caroline or one of several museums or whether you choose to venture outside its natural majesty, Jacksonville has the ability to touch your soul. I recommend kayaking its many rivers, estuaries, and wet lands. Just don't forget the bug spray. A peace can be found here that leaves the mind wanting more.
