Grand Flamenco Xcaret is without a doubt one of the most serene places on earth. The resort is overwhelmingly beautiful, with its traditional architecture, five-star amenities and jungle surroundings. The lobby features a sitting/lounge area that has a calm river running through it, and occasionally features an authentic re-enactment of a traditional Mayan river voyage. There are parrots on perches throughout the resort as well as areas with flamingos, monkeys and deer. The jungle surrounding the resort has been left intact but thinned out and mahogany walkways lead to the resorts various destinations. The jungle is lit throughout with floodlights at night. For those who don’t wish to walk, there is a trolley service that will deliver you to your destination. Also in the lobby area are a variety of shops featuring clothing, jewelry, sundries, souvenirs, authentic Mexican art and leather goods. The prices were comparable to those in the nearby town of Playa Del Carmen.
The freeform pools are immense, clean, un-crowded and conveniently allocated amongst the buildings accommodations. There is a bar at each pool that also serves popcorn, nuts and bottled water. The Royal Club has a private pool, lounge and restaurant. The beach area is quite small but offers great snorkeling and also has a pool and hot tub built into the rocks. There is a hammock area for lazing around and watching the ocean as well as a life size chessboard. Here you can also experience a massage overlooking the ocean as well as a variety of other spa services.
The children’s club features a small pool area as well as a nice clubhouse for activities, however, the children’s events seemed limited and we saw no activities for teens other than a short nighttime review at the resorts theatre.
There are numerous restaurants. The main buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves just about anything a person could imagine. There is a beach buffet that is open at lunchtime. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented with different theme dishes available each day. There are also Mexican, Italian, Steak, Seafood and Pizza restaurants to choose from. The service in the restaurants was impeccable and the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. The service offered by the staff was very consistent and pleasant.
The accommodations were very clean and beautifully appointed with marble floors, spacious bedrooms, large closets, televisions, balconies and magnificent bathrooms with marble sinks and large walk-in showers with benches. Each room had a built in safe as well as a mini bar that was restocked daily with pop, bottled water and beer.
The resort is adjacent to Xcaret Park and each person is given a complimentary pass to the park. It was awesome! The park is large and divided into different sections where you can see various wildlife, snorkel, swim in underground caves, shop, eat and see the historical models of all the Mayan temples. The evening show in the auditorium is spectacular! There is also nightly entertainment at the resort’s theater.
We would highly recommend Grand Flamenco Xcaret for anyone seeking beautiful, relaxing surrounds with a high level of quality and service. Of all the Caribbean and Mexican resorts we have visited, Grand Flamenco Xcaret is by far our favorite.
