Myrtle Beach Stories and Tips

Family vacation in Myrtle Beach

We spent an enjoyable week in Myrtle Beach. As we have often traveled to Florida, we found Myrtle Beach to be a nice change. Instead of flying we drove down and returned on a leisurely side trip through North Carolina.

There are many nice seafood restaurants and some very good and affordable family restaurants. For variation, we tried a country seafood restaurant in Murrell's Inlet, a town south of Myrtle Beach, but found too much emphasis on fried seafood.

One fishing trip I took was not too good. We went for black sea bass. A few fishermen caught keepers but all mine were short. However, the water was very nice and it was neither too hot nor too cold.

The beaches were very nice and not too crowded. Especialy good was the beach at the State Park. The water temperature was perfect.

We enjoyed Ripley's Aquarium, especially where you get to walk through the aquarium (there's a walkway that passes directly underneath the floor of the aquarium). If you're into golfing there were plenty of places to go. We only went miniature golfing.

The next to last night we enjoyed a show at the Alabama Theater. The show, called One, was a country based musical variety show, but they played all types of music including show tunes and tunes dedicated to cities like New York, Chicago, and I left my Heart in S.F. The finale was a rousing memorial to 9/11.

Our only complaint was that there were only two main roads on the island and travel can be very difficult.
