While in the area of Sedona I would also recommend going up to Oak Creek Canyon. Take 89A toward Flagstaff. The drive is gorgeous. Stop along the way and hike down to the creek. The trees and rambling river offer lots of great photo taking. Or take a dip in the cool water, depending on the time of year. there are some nic eswimming holes. Check out Indian Gardens and buy some Kettle Corn.
Another enjoyable day trip would be out to the ghost town of Jerome. Its about an hour away, that is, taking the backroads. The town is way up on a hill. Its a former mining town that now hosts local artists. Go all the way up past Jerome and find The Asylum. Its a cool old hotel and restaurant that at one time was a Hospital and Nut House? The view is great and the beer cold.
