There are Gold Crown resorts and there are Gold Crown resorts. This is not one of the better Gold Crown resorts.

We first checked in at 3:45 p.m. The unit was not quite ready. The staff seemed to be confused. When we initally checked in - there seemed to be poor communication between maintenance staff (as far as which units were ready) vs. check in personnel.

We got our first unit (exactly at 4:00) in which the drapes were frayed and did not work. The garbage chute was in the hallway next to our room. Whenever staff emptied garbage into it - the sound resounded quite badly throughout our unit. My wife had called some time before and requested a waterfront view. Our only view was that of a building across the street. Staff did make beds all week and provided clean towels when needed at no extra charge.

We managed to get another unit on the first floor. The first floor units have a higher ceiling. The drapes on this unit worked, and were not frayed. In fact, the AC worked even better and was quieter in this unit. This time we had a pool side view. A lot better.

The 2 bedroom unit we had was 800 sq feet - not too bad. I was disappointed by the galley kitchen (small and no counter space). The picture RCI provides is totally wrong. The building is not L shaped but square shaped. The parking lot is on all sides of the building. You only get a waterfront view if you have one of 5 or 6 units on the third floor facing the bay. The inset picture I believe shows a 3 bedroom unit.

Long Wharf Resort is pretty much near all of the activity, which is good. It is a mere 5 minute walk from all the shops and stores. You will need a car to go to the mansions - which were great. I recommend that you become a member of the Newport Mansions Organization - it is only $75.00 as opposed to spending hundreds of dollars seeing all of the mansions.

My wife and I rate this resort only a 6 but we both add 1 more for location, location, location. Rate this resort a 7!! We have been in better Gold Crown resorts than this. Would we go back to Long Wharf Resort? NO.

My wife would try The Wellington and I would try Oceancliff I or II. (We did get to see Oceancliff's 1 bedroom unit. It was as big as the 2 bedroom we had at Long Wharf and was furnished much nicer.)

We did not particpate in any of the planned activites even though there were numerous ones planned.

There were ample barbeques for everyone to use. Parking is limited, and we were warned that there may not be enough spaces for everyone.
