Please understand that this is not the place for everyone. Particularly those who yearn the easy soft vacation.
Hotels here are varied. Unfortunataly few provide air conditioning and summer months are scorchers. Fans are usually provided. Hotels out of Montezuma are much cheaper than in town. We paid $5 a night. No bath in the room but hot water in the showers. Evenings under the stars were spetacular. Hotels like this litter the road between Montezuma and Cabo Blaco.
Other than Montezuma, which is the largest town, there is no really active night life. What you get here is peace and quiet. The road from Montezuma to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Santa Teresa is a big surfer destination.
Most people are very accomodating and helpful. Seems that most visitors are from Europe or the US. The Ticos are outnumbered at least 10 to 1.
Cabo Blanco is a prisine National Park. Remember that it is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, there are good hiking trails to various water falls.
Keep away during the rainy season (May to October). Having a car makes it easier but there are buses to get around.
No gay or lesbian activity obvious.
