Located on the northwest side of Lake Arenal very near the volcano. There is just one road around the lake so it is not difficult to find. Tabacon consists of a resort as well as the Volcanic Springs. The resort is quite expensive and I've never stayed there. I will, therefore, tell about the springs.
As was said in the introduction to this area, these bathing springs are the finest thing in this area of Costa Rica. The entry fee of US$17 is not cheap, but you get spend the whole day in these pleasant surroundings. The fee includes your locker and a towel. A deposit must be left for these, but you get this back when the key and towel are returned.
There are about 20 separate pools of running water heated by the volcano. These pools were hewn from the lava rock that covers the entire area, and average about 15 feet wide by the same length. All are irregular in shape, some larger and some smaller. Very neat paths lead from one pool to another and the entire area is planted in beautiful tropical plants, many of which are blooming.
There is a spa with various types of massage offered as well as mud baths. These are not included in the entry fee and must be paid for additionally.
Several regular swimming pools are available for use. Each pool has a different temperature and the largest has a sunken bar offering any drink you may desire.
The restaurant is excellent though a bit expensive for the area. Try to eat there in the evening and be certain to request seating at the rear of the restaurant so that you will have a good view of the volcano. You are virtually guaranteed a nice meal and, with the evening view of the volcano, a truly romantic setting.
Last, you may find a love for your evening because there does appear to be some cruising going on.
