Cabot Tower

The Cabot Tower stands on Brandon Hill overlooking the heart of the city. It was built in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Cabot's voyage of discovery to Newfoundland. Admission is free and it is worth the somehwat breathless climb to get great views over the Floating Harbour, seeing the SS Great Britain and the replica Matthew built to celebrate the 500th Cabot anniversary. The surrounding park is also the home of the Avon Wildlife Trust who have encouraged interesting semi-wild areas.
