Amelia island is a great place to base yourself while going on day trips to St. Augustine, the panhandle, and Daytona Beach. Some of these trips are to be an overnight trip. Daytona beach is a great palce to hit the tracks, hit the beach, and enjoy the ocean. Some great hotels are lined up on the coast and it's just a great palce to unwind, relax, and come for a couple of days as a break from Amelia island. There's not much specifically to do in Daytona beach except race cars, beach, and some shopping like they have in any city. Though it's a nice trip, I can't imagine basing yourself there.
