In planning our trip to Little Rock, we had to decide how to get there. Being that we live in Albany, NY driving would take 21 hours each way (1338 miles). Taking a train would take too long (two days). With the short time we had, flying was the only way to go.
I checked out Southwest Airlines, normally they have the best rates and they do fly out of Albany. No luck, they had no routes between these two cities -- at least none that woudn't take two days. So off to the Internet I went.
Little Rock's airport ( Airport code: LIT) is served by 10 airlines, including the reginal carriers ComAir and Skyway. Look at the departure and arrival flight information to get a feel for the various flights that service LIT.
I looked, but wasn't able to find any suitable alternate airports. If you have more time or are going to be renting a car and driving around the area, you may want to consider these two alternate airports; Greenville, MS (GLH) and Memphis, TN (MEM). Memphis airport is 150 miles away from the Little Rock airport. Greenville is about 185 miles away. Depending on your departure airport you may get a better deal.
I checked four different web sites for airfares. All fares listed below are from Albany (ALB) to LIT, per person with taxes. Neither Hotwire''s nor expedia''s bargain fare will give you flight times before purchase.
Hotwire.com (Bargain fare) $250
Expedia (Bargain Fare) $245
Being that we were short on time (a four-day trip) and wanted to specify our departure times; we went with the best rates from travelocity. The best thing about travelocity, is that you can specify your seats using a map of the plane. The tickets arrived promptly.
