Where? Take Highway 30 - Honoapiilana Highway - north out of Lahaina. Just past Kapalua, the road winds along maybe 50 feet above the water. Look for parking for about 20 cars next to the fence. It used to be a lot more fun to get here. There was one of these 'No Trespassing - Maui Land and Pineapple' signs that we so enjoy walking past, then a walk down a steep path to the beach. Now they've legitimized this beach. The No Trespassing sign is gone and the path has been replace by a concrete stairway. It's much safer to get down, but much less adventurous!
This is a small sandy beach good for body surfing and boogie boarding as well as snorkeling. Some years the beach is sandy, in other years big winter storms pull all the sand out leaving behind only rocks. Snorkel on either the left or right; the middle is empty. Waves can make the snorkeling tough. Surfing competitions are held here during the winter. If the conditions are at all difficult, get back in the car and go up to Honoloa Bay.
