Yucatan Peninsula Stories and Tips

Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen Photo - Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

For many years, Playa was a little fishing village that travelers would pass through to get to the ferry that would take them to Cozumel. They have built large resorts north and south of Playa.

Playa has overtaken Cozumel as the preferred resort town, with better beaches and better nightlife. The color of the water in Playa is so beautiful that you can't keep your eyes away. Playa's pedestrian street, 5th Avenue, is a popular place to stroll and dine, or drink and people watch. Playa's location is good for people traveling by bus to Akumal, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Xcaret, and Xel Ha.
